While watching “Wet Hot American Summer” on Logo – you all know I love that movie – I saw a promo for a new show which is going to be nothing short of absolutely fabulous. And, I mean, it’s sure to rock more hair dye, glitter and diva moves than all of the “Real Housewives” series combined!

Channel surfing:

I can barely contain my excitement about this one. The man, the woman, the legend and the namesake of my laptop (pink but decidedly male) is back on Logo with RuPaul’s Drag U, a spin-off of his hit series RuPaul’s Drag Race. The premise of RuPaul’s Drag U? Everyday women – that’s biological women, no tucking, taping or fibbing required – compete in a series of challenges to “unleash their inner diva.”

The women undergo extreme makeovers in a “school for girls,” gaining self-confidence and a certain kind of swagger. Housewives and moms with a demure, homely style trade in their frumpy wardrobes for outfits with a bit more pizazz, and the women participate in a lip-syncing pageant with a live musical number. Don’t consider it a consolation prize – this, and all of the contestants, are sure to be winners on Draguation Day.

And for those simmering over RuPaul’s Drag Race hiatus until winter 2011, don’t fret – The U’s faculty includes more alumni from the original series than RuPaul has wigs. JuJubee, Raven, Pandora Boxx, Morgan McMichaels, Nina Flowers, Shannel, Ongina and Tammie Brown are all professors, and there’s Dean of Drag Lady Bunny (“the most outrageous Drag Queen in all the United States”) and famous choreographer and Dean of Dance Frank Gatson Jr.

Now, I love RuPaul. I’ve loved him since his appearance in “Love Shack” (and who can forget “The RuPaul Show” on VH1?), and he was a fixture on the Atlanta party scene for quite some time (and though I was too young to remember it, I award props regardless). And, from the looks of the promo, it’s going to be one all out, knock-down-drag-out laugh fest. Pun intended. The series premieres July 19 on Logo, a station I’m sure to be checking out all summer. Between more RuPaul and the adorably endearing British series “Beautiful People,” it’s going to be one hell of a time.
